The Horticulture Club History

The Horticulture club was established and chartered in 1954, by a group of women from Newtown that decided to meet once a month in each other’s homes for dinner and discussion on gardening topics, and to share their knowledge with each other.

The club has grown from this garden club to a full range Horticulture club. The purpose has always been to share our mutual love of gardening and knowledge of horticulture, but in recent years the club has expanded from this to an organization that has developed a diverse informative repertoire of programing each year, bringing experts in various horticulture fields to share this knowledge with members and the community.

Our Members come from all walks of life and live in Newtown or neighboring towns, and we are all drawn together by our interest in Horticulture and love of Gardening.  As a part of our culture, the club also gives back to the Newtown Community at the Victory Garden and planting projects in town each year.

We provide programs from March through November to members and the public.  We meet on the second Thursday of every month at 7 pm at the Newtown Meeting House in the Community Room (lower level).  Members volunteer and bring light refreshments to enjoy after each program.

Come join us, guests are always welcome to meetings or become a member today!
