Annual Meeting House Planting

Club Project:  Planting of Annual Flowers

Place:  In front of the Meeting House 30 Main St.

Fee:  Members and Friends Event

Each year our club offers our gardening skills to beautify the historic Newtown Meeting House, by planting the annual flowers in front of this historic landmark, where we hold our monthly meetings.

This is a fun activity that guarantees instant results since the addition of bright pink impatiens or begonias never fails to beautify the Meeting House entrance.

Bring your own gardening gloves and trowel. The club provides water, coffee and donuts to all volunteers.

See you there!

Thank you for attending this annual trade and swap.

What fun, lots of great plants, doughnuts and coffee. Especially loved the canna lily!

Congrats to Dottie for winning the floral canvas bag.

See you next  year at this event. In the meantime, happy gardening.

Attention Gardeners!: Super Cool Plant Sale in Newtown, CT
It can be fun going from nursery to nursery looking for cool and unusual varieties of plants. But wouldn’t it be better if all those varieties were in one place? Fine Gardening, the national magazine for avid gardeners and plant geeks, thinks so, that’s why they are having their first annual Super Cool Plant Sale on Saturday, June 1 from 9 to 3 (Early Birds: 8 a. m., $10) at the Fairfield Hills campus in Newtown, CT.

We are bringing in the interesting, under-the-radar varieties, the hidden gems, the overlooked performers, and the I-didn’t-know-it-was-out-there cultivars avid gardeners go crazy for.  All the plants will be selected by the Fine Gardening staff, who will be on hand to help you find some extraodinary options or just jealously admire what you’ve picked out.

So make the trip to Newtown, but make sure your trunk is empty before you come, because it certainly won’t be when you leave.

Trip to Innisfree Gardens

Place:  Innisfree Gardens and picnic lunch

362 Tyrrel Rd Millbrook, NY 12545

Presenter:  Self-Guided Group Tour

Fee:  $10 per guest donation is required

Recognized as one of the “world’s ten best gardens,”  Innisfree is a powerful icon of mid-twentieth century design. Over fifty years in the making, it is the work of landscape architect Lester Collins, FASLA (1914 – 1993), with important contributions by his clients, artist and teacher Walter Beck and gardener and Heiress Marion Burt Beck.  At its core, Innisfree is about the individual’s experience in nature. Inviting exploration and even contemplation. Collins’ sweeping landscape merges the essence of Modernist and Romantic ideas with traditional Chinese and Japanese garden design principles in a form that evolved through subtle handling of the site and slow manipulation of its ecology. The result is a distinctly American stroll garden — a sublime composition of rock, water, wood, and sky achieved with remarkable economy and grace.
