Everyone brought delicious food and the festive pumpkin craft was fun & easy to make.

Proposal for club donation to Aspetuck is for $50.00 for 2 blueberry plants. Can't wait to prune and pick again next year. All in favor was passed.

Suggested date and location of Holiday party, is Friday Dec 7th, 2018. Two suggestions were made. 1) by Tammara we rent out Alexandria room and cater. 2) by Joann have it at Sal & Pepes again.

We need your votes ASAP!! Please email Tammara which you prefer.

Pick and Picnic at the Victory Garden

Our Annual Pick and Picnic was held ,  Friday, July 20 that the Victory Garden, Fairfield Hills.   We spent time in the garden and spend some time weeding and watering our rows and harvested wonderful veggies.  Than on to a potluck supper so many delicious treats!  A few of us hung out till 10:00 pm watching the stars.  What a wonderful night ! Can't wait to go back.

Victory garden potatoe harvest July 2018

Karen Brown and I dug our first harvest if Red and White potatoes this morning from our rows at the Victory garden. 

They are beautiful!! About 20-25 lbs. 

We buried the plants most of the way and there will be another harvest late August.

Hydroponic and Vertical Gardening

Daniel Hackworth recently earned a degree in Horticulture Production
and talked about his experience working at Metrocrops, an indoor hydroponic
micro-greens company in the heart of Bridgeport.

This had Dan come up with ideas and a prototype design of a hydroponic system
for anyone to grow hydroponic to easily grow microgreens at home. You don't need land,
space, weeding and this gives you year round gardening. Dan plans on having this product available this year. If you are interested in
learning more about this or would like to order please get in touch with Dan.

Dan provided for this months raffle a bag of microgreens. Tamarra had green beans both items
were raffled of. What a interesting talk.

Blueberry picking at Aspetuck, Easton, CT + tour by Tom Johnson

What a spectacular way to begin a Sat. morning.  This 1,000 acre preserve is beautiful and the blueberries are a bonus.  There is a view where you can see all the way to Long Island Sound. Can't wait to go back to see the hawks in the fall.
 PS   Even though it was early in the season we were able to harvest so who is making blueberry pie with all those delicious blueberries?

Moss Workshop and Demonstration

Moss Workshop and Demonstration by Theresa Hackworth and her
son Dan Hackworth had us all get inspired as we learned about the
many types of moss and what you can create.

They decorated a fish tank stand (see above) into a work of garden art which
even included a volcano. A slide presentation was given showing her many
moss garden projects.

Theresa displays her work in her garden, offers workshops and sells her
one of a kind designs. She is also able to come to your property
and make a very personal design for you.

Tamarra won a raffle prize and a bonus of having Theresa
make a designer moss garden pot.

What a great night.

Horticulture Plant Sale Sat. June 2, 2018

The Horticulture Club of Newtown will hold a plant sale this Saturday June 2nd at 50 Main Street from 9-1pm. 

Proceeds will go toward our annual high school scholarship fund.

On sale will be lots of plants grown by members, donations from local nurseries, and garden items and seeds.

There will also be a Raffle and free plant information from our experienced gardeners and members, and a table where Children or Adults, can buy a peat pot and select a seed, plant it and take it home to watch it grow.

We hope that you can come! 

Lavendar with Sheryl Basford Fatse

Our May speaker was Sheryl Bassford Fatse.  Sheryl is the owner and founder of Yogoinilini Peace Practices for healing and growth.  Her talk was on the benefits of therapeutic grade essential oils and its uses, specifically Lavender oil, and demonstrates with smelling of samples of lavender and other medicinal oils.

Sheryl brought raffles prizes and the club provided gorgeous lavender plants which were raffled off.  There were several winners and we all left smelling and feeling better.
